The Portuguese man-of-war belongs to a group of jelly-like animals called siphonophores. Its tentacles can trail for over 30 m (98ft). This gaint is made up of as many as 100,000 tiny individual animals stuck together. Each has its own special job. Some sting or catch food. Others make the siphonophore float or pull it through the water.
